The Marathon Runners Club’s 7 Mile Bridge Run began as a dedication run in 1982, celebrating the opening of the “new” 7 Mile Bridge.

This run is the only known run that is completely surrounded by water from start to finish. It is officially marked at 6.8 miles.

Race World Offshore (RWO) is excited to announce the addition of the Inaugural 7 Mile Offshore Grand Prix to the 2023 race schedule. The APBA National Series Race will kick off in Marathon, Florida. Teams will race alongside the recently renovated 7 Mile Bridge. The bridge is an iconic structure in the Florida Keys that connects the middle keys to the lower keys.

The annual celebration salutes the Nobel Prize–winning author’s writing achievements, sporting pursuits and enjoyment of the island’s easygoing lifestyle.

The festival’s undisputed highlight is the Hemingway® Look-Alike Contest at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, 201 Duval St., a frequent hangout for the writer during his 1930s residence in Key West. Scores of stocky, bearded entrants are to parade across Sloppy Joe’s stage before a judging panel of previous winners during preliminary and final rounds.

Every July the coastal areas of Florida are flooded with lobster hunters trying to get their share of this year’s bounty when the official mini lobster season kicks off. There are two Florida Lobster Seasons, the 2-day mini season and the 8-month regular lobster season. The mini lobster season is always the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July.

Fantasy Fest is an annual 10-day party in paradise. Started in 1979 by a small group of Key West locals, the party was created to bring visitors to the island in what was a typically quiet, but beautiful season. It worked. Fantasy Fest has grown every year since its inception and is now the wildest extravaganza around! Fun-loving revelers from around the globe bring their creativity and imaginations as they descend upon Key West each year in October for 10 days filled with costuming, parades, libations, and excitement!

Take in the beauty of Marathon from the famous Seven Mile Bridge. The pedestrian portion of the bridge was recently reopened after a massive renovation. Guests of Isla Bella are within walking distance of the bridge, where picturesque blue water awaits.

Get up close with impressive variety of local fish and marine species at this celebrated learning and conservation center in Marathon. Through their Encounter Experiences you can snorkel or dive through coral reefs teaming with fish, get up close with stingrays, and get to know a friendly group of nurse sharks, and that’s just the beginning.

Tucked away amid the heart of the Marathon shopping district lies a 63-acre tropical oasis of hardwood trees, nature trails and educational displays for adults and children. One trail takes you by the Marathon Wild Bird Center, a hospital of sorts for injured pelicans, cormorants, egrets and other Keys birds. The staff care for their flock in hopes of returning them to their native habitats. Near the entrance to the hammock is the Museum of Natural History. Here, parents and children can learn about everything from the life cycle of sea turtles to how Native Americans forged a living from the sea.
Outside is a children’s activities area that includes a wooden pirate ship feature for playing, and a touch tank for getting up close and personal with some of the creatures of the Keys.

Spend an hour or the whole day with the Dolphin Research Center family.  Whether you come in under general admission for an up close look at dolphins and sea lions during  behavior sessions, or choose a fun-filled interactive program including swimming with dolphins, you’re going to have a great time! Since 1986 the Turtle Hospital has been caring for injured sea turtles, providing surgery when necessary, educating the public, conducting research, and working towards environmental legislation to keep turtles safe. The Turtle Hospital offers 90-minute tours and education programs that allow visitors to see these amazing creatures up close.
