Get up close with impressive variety of local fish and marine species at this celebrated learning and conservation center in Marathon. Through their Encounter Experiences you can snorkel or dive through coral reefs teaming with fish, get up close with stingrays, and get to know a friendly group of nurse sharks, and that’s just the beginning.

Tucked away amid the heart of the Marathon shopping district lies a 63-acre tropical oasis of hardwood trees, nature trails and educational displays for adults and children. One trail takes you by the Marathon Wild Bird Center, a hospital of sorts for injured pelicans, cormorants, egrets and other Keys birds. The staff care for their flock in hopes of returning them to their native habitats. Near the entrance to the hammock is the Museum of Natural History. Here, parents and children can learn about everything from the life cycle of sea turtles to how Native Americans forged a living from the sea.
Outside is a children’s activities area that includes a wooden pirate ship feature for playing, and a touch tank for getting up close and personal with some of the creatures of the Keys.

Spend an hour or the whole day with the Dolphin Research Center family.  Whether you come in under general admission for an up close look at dolphins and sea lions during  behavior sessions, or choose a fun-filled interactive program including swimming with dolphins, you’re going to have a great time! Since 1986 the Turtle Hospital has been caring for injured sea turtles, providing surgery when necessary, educating the public, conducting research, and working towards environmental legislation to keep turtles safe. The Turtle Hospital offers 90-minute tours and education programs that allow visitors to see these amazing creatures up close.
